Elevating Qualitative Research @NC State (EQUAL) is a new faculty-led learning community looking to increase the visibility of qualitative research and its researchers by offering professional development opportunities. The group gathered for the first time over a 4-hour workshop, Digital Tools for Qualitative Research, led by Trena Paulus, author of the book of the same name. During the workshop, 20 faculty participants created digital workflows that digitally assist with all aspects of research design–from literature reviews to data representation. The workshop also hosted lunch, providing networking opportunities from across our campus.
Additionally, the group has mapped all the qualitative research courses and created a roster of over fifty people teaching and/or engaged in these approaches to inquiry to create synergy across campus. The group is open to any faculty members or research associates. The next event is November 9th at 9:00 a.m. (Room TBD) and will be facilitated by one of the group’s leaders, Dr. Corey Johnson. Johnson indicated, “Using the significant experiences of participants, we will learn how to design and execute Collective Memory Work, a social justice-oriented methodology. If you need information or want to be added to the roster of qualitative researchers, email him at corey.johnson@ncsu.edu
