Connecting Thinking and Doing

In Fall 2023, Dr. Kirsti Cole (English) and Dr. Roy Schwartzman (Communication) became the new Co-Directors of CWSP, working closely with Executive Director Dr. Chris Anson (English).

We are the team that supports faculty teaching and student learning in oral, written, and digital communication skills.

Ranked for several years among the top universities for writing in the disciplines (U.S. News and World Report), NC State is proud of our faculty who do outstanding work teaching communication skills to their students that benefit them not only in their academic careers but in their workplaces after graduation. Roy and Kirsti are available to support the Writing and Speaking Enriched Curriculum (WSEC) developed and assessed by faculty members and departments across campus. The NC State General Education Program highlights WSEC through the category “Communication in the Major.” We are available for department consultations as well as individually or with groups of faculty to discuss activities, assignments, and assessment of writing and speaking. We are building a Moodle site that will give open access to any faculty member looking for resources, and our rebuilt website will be complete by the end of Fall 2023.

Please keep an eye out for upcoming workshops and activities through the Office for Faculty Excellence this semester, as well as an opportunity to register for a faculty seminar during the spring.

We welcome department and unit heads to participate in this preliminary CWSP survey.

We are here to support you! Please contact us at writing_speaking@ncsu.edu to find out more.
