Interdisciplinary Programs
NC State promotes a campus culture of interdisciplinary excellence and collaboration across academic boundaries.
Interdisciplinarity at NC State
Interdisciplinary collaboration is part of how NC State advances its mission. The most complex challenges facing society today require expertise from multiple fields, bringing together different perspectives, approaches and ways of thinking to develop new ideas and solutions
Across NC State, interdisciplinary collaboration connects students, faculty, staff and researchers from different colleges and fields to tackle problems that cross traditional academic boundaries. Through interdisciplinary degrees and programs, collaborative research, experiential learning and partnerships, the university creates opportunities for people with different expertise to learn from one another and achieve more together than they could alone.
Interdisciplinary work is woven throughout NC State’s 12 colleges, research centers and institutes. By fostering connections across disciplines, the university advances discovery, strengthens teaching and learning, and expands opportunities for innovation and engagement. These collaborations reflect NC State’s land-grant mission by addressing the evolving needs of North Carolina and communities around the world.
