Upcoming Projects

We’re working on broadening the reach of our scientific research and engagement through upcoming projects.

Internal Grants

The University-Museum Partnership will soon publish a request for proposals for internal grants from the Office of University Interdisciplinary Programs. These grants will be awarded to joint-appointee faculty, and require them to partner with one (or more) of the OUIP units. Additionally, the partnership will be expanding a program that was piloted in the summer of 2023 where joint-appointee faculty received funding from their college to support NC State undergraduate research interns to work in their labs.

Courses

Joint-appointee faculty will also be teaching several courses in the 2024 spring semester. Among them, Adrian Smith will be teaching BIO/PSC 592 – Creative Media Production for Scientists, in which he teaches graduate students how to make videos of their science. Paul Brinkman will teach a history course called HI 323: Science, American Style, which is an exploration of the distinctive nature of American science and its place in American culture. Analysis of the historical context of developments, such as early contributions to science, natural history, and paleontology; the growth of professionalization of science; ideas about scientific management and social applications such as eugenics; and the creation of the atomic bomb and the rise of “Big Science” after WWII will also be covered.
