COIL Professional Development Awards

Award Details

The Office for Faculty Excellence (OFE) encourages faculty engaged in Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) to submit proposals to support their professional development.  This includes both attending formal professional development courses and workshops to increase expertise in COIL, and presenting at international and domestic conferences that focus on global teaching and learning, virtual engagement, COIL, etc. about COIL projects. The award will cover COIL-related professional development expenses for up to $1,000 in an academic year. Faculty members receiving this award are not eligible to apply again. COIL Professional Development Awards are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis among all qualifying applications, until the term’s fund is exhausted. 

Application Deadline

The deadline for applications for funding is Nov. 3, 2025. Funding must be spent by June 30, 2026 Applications will be  reviewed shortly after the deadline and award decisions made within a month after the deadline.

Eligibility

  • Must be a full-time (.75 FTE and above) NC State faculty member. 
  • Applications may be for undergraduate or graduate courses and are open to tenure-track, tenured, and professional faculty.
  • Faculty applying for conference travel support must be presenting and include notice of conference presentation acceptance or letter of invitation.
  • Faculty members are eligible for one research travel award per fiscal year.
  • Previous travel or professional development will not be funded.
  • Faculty members are expected to only request reimbursement for travel costs that they incur and that are not already covered by other funding sources.

Criteria

  • Must be an NC State faculty member. Faculty must hold full-time appointments for the academic year.
  • Faculty may be undergraduate or graduate faculty, tenure or professional track.
  • Faculty must be conducting a conference presentation and must include notice of conference proposal accepted or letter of invitation.
  • Faculty members are eligible for one research travel award per fiscal year.
  • Previous travel will not be funded.
  • Must be accepted to present original research at a conference.
  • Faculty members are expected to only request reimbursement for travel costs that they personally incur and that are not already covered by other sources.

Deliverables

Faculty members receiving this grant for the purpose of conference presentation are expected to share their presentation, abstract, poster, etc. with the Office for Faculty Excellence post conference. Faculty members receiving this grant for the purpose of professional development are expected to create a short blog post about what they learned for publication in the OFE Faculty Forum Blog and/or present their work at the NC State Conference on Faculty Excellence.
