|RED| Universal Course Design Certification (UCDC)

The |RED| Universal Course Design Certification |UCDC| provides opportunities for faculty and teaching graduate students to reflect on multiple facets of teaching, encompassing the creation of a welcoming, equitable course climate, the design and implementation of accessible classroom practices and assessments, and the selection and implementation of diverse course content.

Participants will engage with key concepts and learn from various stakeholders on our campus and other institutions of higher education who share their important research on student development, Universal Design for Learning and more.

Participants will develop the resources for applying comprehensive pedagogical practices that support all learners.

• There is no cost for the certification
• Taught 100% asynchronously
• Applications for certification are submitted online and accepted in August each year
• Participants have one year to complete the certification from the time of enrollment

Who is eligible to participate?

Open to all NC State faculty, full- and part-time faculty, as well as teaching graduate students and postdocs.

Through satisfactory completion of this certification, graduate students and postdocs can apply 20 hours toward their Teaching and Communicate Certificate.

Once you apply, faculty participants will be notified via University email of their acceptance and provided instructions to register in REPORTER (please do not register until you have that acceptance email). 

The certification can be achieved in one semester, with diligence. We encourage faculty participants to succinctly complete all modules and participate in reflective activities. Previous professional learning experiences will not count toward this certification. 

If you have completed the Office for Faculty Excellence Inclusive Teaching Certification (ITC) in the past 2 years, you are not eligible to apply for this one

Accepted program participants will complete reflective activities and one module for each of the six competencies:

• Awareness and Perspectives
• Cultural Relevance and Responsiveness
• Community and Belonging
• Access and Empowerment
• Global Learning
