Back to Basics Series

Many faculty members have never had any formal training in education. For this reason, OFE is offering some simple introductory offerings to get faculty on track with their teaching.

In this three-part workshop series held via Zoom, faculty will have the opportunity to listen to the workshop presenters and other participants, share their experiences, receive insights and feedback from peers, engage in important, timely, and relevant conversations with other faculty who are interested in these topics. Faculty will build professional and social connections with other faculty.

Sessions will be led by OFE’s Dr. Maria Gallardo-Williams (Senior Faculty Development Specialist) and Dr. Diane Chapman (Executive Director and Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Development).

Session Schedule

  • Designing Flexible Course Experiences (Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2:00-3:00 p.m. via Zoom): We will focus on ways to design course experiences that are flexible enough to appeal to in-person, online, and hybrid learners while maintaining a high level of course quality.
  • Assessing Learning in Flexible Course Experiences (Tuesday, Mar. 8, 2:00-3:00 p.m. via Zoom): It’s important to use the same assessment strategies for everyone or to create equivalent assessment opportunities as necessary. We will focus on assessment strategies for students that choose different participation pathways.
  • Facilitating and Managing Engagement in Flexible Course Experiences (Tuesday, April 5, 2:00-3:00 p.m. via Zoom): Flexible course experiences can make it difficult for students to feel a sense of connection and belonging. Creating opportunities for student-student interaction and teacher-student interaction is critically important for student success.
