OFD Newsletter: June 21, 2021

OFD becomes part of the new Office for Faculty Excellence on July 1

Effective July 1, 2021, the Office of Faculty Development (OFD) and the Office of Faculty Affairs will merge to form the Office for Faculty Excellence. Our offices have worked closely together for many years, and this merger formalizes and strengthens that relationship.

The Office for Faculty Excellence will provide support and guidance to all NC State faculty, as we foster and facilitate professional success and growth. We will provide critical resources at all stages of a faculty member’s career, including enhancing faculty skills and practices through professional development programming, coordinating campus-wide development resources, providing support for the implementation and review of policies related to faculty employment and advancement, assisting faculty as they pursue honorific awards and celebrating faculty success through special events.

What does this mean for NC State faculty? Despite the new name and organizational structure, we will continue to provide all of the same services for which you have come to rely on OFD and Faculty Affairs.

Later this year, we will unveil an updated and unified web presence. Also, watch for an article with more information about our merger in the July edition of the Provost’s Newsletter.

NC State Global Promotes Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)

Research shows that virtual exchange students demonstrate an increase in cultural intelligence after participating in a COIL course, as well as an interest in greater global engagement. Therefore, as part of NC State Global’s Global Learning for All initiative, COIL promotes virtual, interactive educational opportunities by connecting faculty and students through shared experiences across international borders. Click the article to learn more about Dr. Makoto Kobashi’s (Nagoya University) experiences about participating in a COIL-type course for the first time. Read more here.

#NCStateUnplugged Summer 2021

unplugged logoLast summer we offered you a series of Faculty Conversations, which were very well attended, but this summer we have taken a different approach, which might bring us some relief after a year online.

#NCStateUnplugged Summer 2021 is a series of 4 email blasts, delivered weekly during the month of July, designed to advance the professional development of our faculty during this summer, but open to staff and graduate students as well.

Each week is designed to help the reader/listener to work through a different aspect of getting ready to go back in the Fall: We are offering original content, journaling prompts, mini-podcasts with subject matter experts, and curated resources such as videos and readings that support the central theme of the week.

Learn more about the program on OFD’s blog, Faculty Forum, or if you’re ready to sign up for the 4 installments of the #NCStateUnplugged Summer 2021 series, go here. We hope that you will choose to spend some time this summer with us.
