OFD is Now Part of the New Office for Faculty Excellence

OFE logoOn July 1, 2021, the Office of Faculty Development (OFD) and the Office of Faculty Affairs merged to form the Office for Faculty Excellence. Our offices have worked closely together for many years, and this merger formalizes and strengthens that relationship.

The Office for Faculty Excellence provides support and guidance to all NC State faculty, as we foster and facilitate professional success and growth. We provide critical resources at all stages of a faculty member’s career, including enhancing faculty skills and practices through professional development programming, coordinating campus-wide development resources, providing support for the implementation and review of policies related to faculty employment and advancement, assisting faculty as they pursue honorific awards and celebrating faculty success through special events.

What does this mean for NC State faculty? Despite the new name and organizational structure, we will continue to provide all of the same services for which you have come to rely on OFD and Faculty Affairs. Later this year, we will unveil an updated and unified web presence. Also, watch for an article with more information about our merger in the July edition of the Provost’s Newsletter.

Writing Wednesdays: Virtual Faculty Writing Retreats (July 7)

Do you have a writing task that you’ve been putting off? The Office of Faculty Development offers virtual writing retreats, Writing Wednesdays, designed to support you in getting it done! The OFD team has designed synchronous 2.5-hour mini-retreats using the Pomodoro method, held on the first Wednesday of every month via Zoom.

Our next session will be held on Wednesday, July 7.

During these sessions, faculty participants will:

  • Work toward a specific writing task in a structured and supportive environment;
  • Be able to access resources from campus experts such as the Libraries, and the IRB office; and
  • Discover tips for preparing for the retreat and getting your writing done.

Special bonus for Writing Wednesdays: we have pre-recorded child edutainment provided by Arts NC State for your Wolfpack pups ages 3 to 12 years.

Register today and plan to dedicate uninterrupted time to writing your article, grant proposal, book chapter, or dossier materials.

Building a Productive, Supportive Cohort During COVID-19: SoTL Institute Outcomes

OFE logoTeaching faculty in institutions of higher education are expected to present and publish in scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) or discipline-based educational research (DBER). However, most faculty members don’t have prior training in doing this type of research, and might struggle to excel in this task.

Last year, the Office for Faculty Excellence (OFE) launched the virtual SoTL Institute to support faculty as they turned their educational innovation into tangible scholarship. Continue reading on Faculty Forum.
