Changed to Virtual: 2020 Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Institute (Applications Due April 10)

The 2020 SoTL Institute will be held virtually this year. Applications are open through April 10. The SoTL Institute provides NC State faculty with skills, funding, mentorship, and support to conduct research into teaching and learning.

Participants will learn about SoTL and discipline-based education research (DBER), and design a research project to study teaching and learning in their classrooms.

Eligibility: Any full-time faculty member at NC State may apply to participate in this program.

Program Dates: This 1-year program begins the week of May 11 with three required live workshops on Zoom. There will be additional online asynchronous content delivered in Moodle. Open lab hours are available to ask questions and receive individual guidance on research development.

Workshops (Required):

  • Workshop 1: Monday, May 11, 10:00-11:30 a.m.
  • Workshop 2: Wednesday, May 13, 10:00-11:30 a.m.
  • Workshop 3: Friday, May 15, 10:00-11:30 a.m.

Open Labs (optional):

  • Tuesday, May 12, 10:00-11:30 a.m.
  • Thursday, May 14, 10:00-11:30 a.m.
  • There are 4 follow-up meetings in-person or via Zoom (last Monday of August 2020, November 2020, January 2021, April 2021, time TBD).

Participants are expected to present their work at the 2021 Teaching and Learning Symposium (end of February 2021).

Funding: Each participant is eligible for a mini-grant for up to $1,500 that can be used for conference travel or other allowed project-related expenses.
Applications will close at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2020. Acceptance notifications will go out on Friday, April 24, 2020.

Faculty, postdocs, and teaching graduate students are invited to apply for the Spring 2020 online cohort of the Inclusive Teaching Certification |ITC|. This comprehensive, asynchronous Certification is a collaborative professional development project among NC State University’s Disability Services, DELTA, experienced faculty, GLBT Center, Graduate School, Office of Faculty Development, Office of Global Engagement, Office of Institutional Equity & Diversity (OIED), and Office of Information Technology.
