Bio

Dr. Call’s research group has expertise in environmental electrochemical technologies. They are studying an electrochemical approach to removing carbon dioxide from seawater. Traditional electrochemical technologies use large energy inputs to split seawater and drive precipitation of carbon dioxide as carbonates. His group is studying a low-energy alternative that reduces the potential for potentially harmful byproducts. Their ultimate vision is to recover the carbonate precipitates and use them in the manufacture of concrete and cement. Doing so would offset the need for clinker, a major contributor to carbon dioxide emissions.
