Call for Citizen Science Teaching Fellows

The Citizen Science Campus programs at NC State and NC A&T are each hosting four (4) Citizen Science Teaching Fellows for a training in summer 2022, with funding from the National Science Foundation.

Citizen science refers a type of participatory science in which research depends on public engagement in the voluntary generation of data. You can explore thousands of projects at SciStarter.org. Fellows will develop a course module, which involves creating learning opportunities for students via assignments (e.g., in-class assignments, homework, labs, semester-long projects, extra credit) that make use of citizen science project activities and/or their data. Full-time faculty (Tenure-track and Professional track) from any department are eligible if they have the flexibility to include their citizen science module a Fall 2022 course.

Fellows will receive a $500 stipend for successfully completing the summer training (two self-guided online tutorials in June, and two virtual full-day workshops on July 13 and July 20) and presenting their proposed module in a joint session with NCA&T on 20 July.

  • Application via Qualtrics are due Tuesday, 10 May, 2022 by 5pm.
  • Direct questions to Dr. Zakiya Leggett (zholmes@ncsu.edu) and/or Dr. Caren Cooper (cbcoope3@ncsu.edu).
  • We will announce selected Fellows by 24 May, 2022.
