The NC State site license provides up to 150 free conference registrations for faculty, staff and graduate students using their NC State email addresses. The Office for Faculty Excellence is managing registration for the conference and will gather registration requests and send them to Lilly Online in batches. If you want to attend the conference, complete the registration form. You will receive a confirmation of your registration from the Office for Faculty Excellence and later from ITLC Lilly Online Conference when we send them the batch registrations.

How to Support Our Students’ Academic Integrity in a Challenging Online Landscape

generic image of an NC State studentFrustrated with sites that foster academic dishonesty? Today on Faculty Forum, OFE’s Maria Gallardo-Williams teams up with Stacy Gant and Arlene Mendoza-Moran from DELTA to offer some practical solutions that instructors across the world have used to refocus the attention of students and make sites such as Chegg or Course Hero less attractive due to the limited nature of the content available. Some of the strategies that they propose are simple changes that can be implemented with little extra work, while others involve new approaches and a redesign of course elements. We hope that these ideas will be helpful to you as you devise your own solutions to this challenging online landscape.

Applications Open Friday: 2022 Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Institute

SOTL 2022The Office for Faculty Excellence will begin accepting applications for the 2022 Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Institute (SoTL) on April 1. The SoTL Institute is a program designed with busy faculty members in mind who would like to explore teaching as a form of scholarly work. It provides NC State faculty with skills, funding, mentorship, and support to conduct research in teaching and learning. Participants will learn about SoTL and discipline-based education research (DBER), as well as design and implement a research project to study teaching and learning in their course or courses.

This is a 1-year commitment that begins with an intensive Virtual Institute held in mid-May. For this year, the dates are Monday, May 9, Wednesday, May 11 and Friday, May 13, 2022.There are 4 follow-up meetings in August 2022, October 2022, January 2023, and April 2023, all held on the last Monday of the month from 3:00-4:00 PM. Participants will present a poster with their findings at the 2023 Teaching and Learning Symposium held at the end of February 2023. Back to Basics: Facilitating and Managing Engagement in Flexible Course Experiences

OFE’s Spring Back to Basics series continues next week with Facilitating and Managing Engagement in Flexible Course Experiences (Tuesday, April 5, 2:00-3:00 p.m. via Zoom). Flexible course experiences can make it difficult for students to feel a sense of connection and belonging. Creating opportunities for student-student interaction and teacher-student interaction is critically important for student success.

The Back to Basics series is led by OFE’s Dr. Maria Gallardo-Williams (Senior Faculty Development Specialist) and Dr. Diane Chapman (Executive Director and Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Development).
