Call for Proposals: 2022 Teaching and Learning Symposium

About the Teaching and Learning Symposium

The NC State University Office for Faculty Excellence (OFE) invites faculty, postdoctoral scholars and professional staff from all six member institutions of the Cooperating Raleigh Colleges (NC State, Meredith College, Saint Augustine’s University, Shaw University, Wake Tech Community College, William Peace University) to submit virtual session and poster proposals for the 2022 Teaching and Learning Symposium, which will be held virtually via Zoom (Registration coming soon). Proposals can deal with a wide variety of topics, including lessons learned from and innovations born out of the pandemic, teaching with technology, innovative pedagogical techniques, creativity in teaching and learning, SoTL (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning)/DBER (Discipline-based Educational Research), faculty innovations in teaching, inclusive teaching, faculty resilience, creating community and well-being, and trauma-informed teaching.

Description of Submission Types and Criteria for Acceptance

Virtual Sessions

Virtual sessions are 30 minute sessions that may be a roundtable discussion, presentation, or other format proposed by the submitter. Proposals of 100-250 words are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2022. Proposals should describe the nature of the session, at least one specific strategy that will be used to engage participants, and include one foundational reference from the literature. Presenters will receive a notification of a session acceptance decision by January 21, 2022. Please submit your abstract here go.ncsu.edu/symposiumsessions.

Digital Posters

For this category, we are looking for a static or dynamic digital artifact that will be shared virtually in a breakout room with participants. Poster proposal abstracts should succinctly summarize the poster content. Teaching and learning-related posters that have been presented in other venues within the past year can be considered (please note where and when the poster has previously been presented).

Proposals of 100-250 words are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2022. Please submit your virtual poster abstract here go.ncsu.edu/symposiumposters.

First authors will receive a notification of a poster acceptance decision by January 21, 2022. Due to the anticipated number of submissions, the Office for Faculty Excellence will only be able to contact the First Author regarding each poster. The First Author will be responsible for passing along pertinent information to any co-authors, including deadlines, acceptance decisions, and logistics information about the poster session.
Once accepted, presenters should submit a pdf of their final poster to faculty-excellence@ncsu.edu by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2022.

Outstanding Poster Award

A panel including members of NC State’s Academy of Outstanding Teachers will select a poster for an Outstanding Poster Award. Click to view the Outstanding Poster Criteria. The winner will be announced during the lunch program at Symposium starting at 12:00 p.m.

Online Lilly Conference Registrations Available

DELTA and the Office for Faculty Excellence are pleased to announce the purchase of a site license for the ITLC Lilly Online Conference, occurring April 6, 13, 20, and 27, 2022 with asynchronous sessions available through June 2022. The Lilly conference is focused on enhancing online, onsite and hybrid teaching and learning.

Attendees will enjoy 4 full days of conference programming, conveniently scheduled across four Wednesdays to reduce disruption to your teaching schedule. The conference is geared toward faculty and administrators at various stages in their academic careers, representing nearly every discipline found in higher education. Attendees will enjoy a variety of 20-minute and 40-minute asynchronous sessions, traditional plenary addresses, synchronous facilitated discussions, and poster presentations addressing contemporary issues and include proven, innovative pedagogies.
The Call for Proposals is currently open with a deadline of January 15, 2022.

How to Register at No Cost

The NC State site license provides up to 150 free conference registrations for faculty, staff and graduate students using their NC State email addresses. The Office for Faculty Excellence is managing registration for the conference and will gather registration requests and send them to Lilly Online in batches. If you want to attend the conference, complete the registration form. You will receive a confirmation of your registration from the Office of Faculty Development and later from ITLC Lilly Online Conference when we send them the batch registrations.

Remember there is no cost for registration and you can submit a conference proposal before being registered.

NC State Impact Scholars: 2022 Applications Now Open!

The Strengthening The Impact of Research (STIR) program seeks to enhance NC State’s capacity to design and conduct research with broad impacts on society by creating and supporting the first cohort of NC State Impact Scholars. This group of 10-12 selected Impact Scholars will attend a series of five, two hour workshops in Spring 2022 to strengthen their capacity to create innovative research impacts on society and write more competitive grant proposals. Impact Scholars will also design and implement a project of their own, and conduct a Research Impacts workshop in their department. With support from the Office of Outreach and Engagement, Impact Scholars will receive $1,000 to support their project expenses.
