Free Books on Teaching and Learning

Updates and remodeling are taking place in the Office of Faculty Development’s spaces on the 4th floor of Clark Hall! As a result, the books in our library (Clark Hall Room 423) need new homes. There are hundreds of books and journals on pedagogy, higher education issues, etc. Stop by any time between 9:00 and 4:00 today through Thursday, February 20 to browse and take as many as you like!

NCFDD 14-Day Writing Challenge

Registration is open through March 19 for the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity’s next 14-Day Writing Challenge (March 23 – April 5, 2020). The 14-Day Challenge is an opportunity for you to experiment with daily writing, online community, and supportive accountability.

It’s very simple:

  1. You commit to write every day for at least 30 minutes.
  2. At the beginning of your writing time, you login to our online community, start the timer, complete your writing, and post your progress at the end.
  3. You take 5 minutes to support other writers in your group by commenting on their progress.

Through NC State University’s institutional membership, all graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and faculty have access to the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD), which provides professional development, training, and mentoring.

IRB Topical Workshop: Using Secondary Data in Research

In this session you will learn about what secondary data used for research looks like, any laws governing your use of secondary data, how to complete your IRB application regarding use of secondary data, data security and management, review options for the use of secondary data, issues of consent and secondary data, and information about repositories at NC State.

Does your research involve the use of data collected by others for a reason other than your proposed research project? This session will benefit both new and seasoned researchers regarding using secondary data and communicating that with the IRB.

In this session participants will learn the following:

  • What secondary data used for research looks like
  • Laws and regulations governing your use of secondary data
  • How to complete your IRB application regarding use of secondary data
  • Data security and management,
  • Review options for the use of secondary data, issues of consent and secondary data, and information about repositories at NC State.

This workshop is part of the IRB workshop series held in the NC State University Libraries. There are no prerequisites, but prior knowledge of the IRB process could be helpful for attendees.
