Registration Open for 2020 Teaching and Learning Symposium

Registration is now open for the Office of Faculty Development’s annual signature event, the Teaching and Learning Symposium, which will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020 (9:30 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.) at the McKimmon Center. During this one-day event, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in interactive sessions led by NC State faculty, attend a keynote lecture, and meet and talk with NC State peers who are interested in teaching and learning.

Our 2020 keynote speaker will be Dr. Thomas J. Tobin, co-author of Reach Everyone, Teach Everyone: Universal Design for Learning in Higher Education, our Fall 2019 Reading Circle selection. Dr. Tobin is an internationally-recognized speaker and author on topics related to quality in distance education, especially copyright, evaluation of teaching practice, academic integrity, and accessibility/universal design for learning. Since the advent of online courses in higher education in the late 1990s, his work has focused on using technology to extend the reach of higher education beyond its traditional audience.

The Symposium (including lunch) is free of charge. Registration is for the full day, but attendees may come and go as needed.

2019 Outstanding Extension and Engagement Awards Nominations Due January 24th

The Office of Outreach and Engagement is pleased to announce the annual call for nominations for the Outstanding Extension Awards and Outstanding Engagement Awards. These awards are to encourage and recognize members of the faculty and EHRA staff who are nominated and selected by their respective colleagues, schools or units on campus for their outstanding contributions to extension and engagement.

The award recipients will become nominees for induction into the Academy of Outstanding Faculty in Extension and Engagement (AOFEE) and also be considered to receive an Alumni Extension Award which includes a monetary honorarium.

Awardees will be recognized at the University Outreach and Engagement Awards Ceremony and Reception on April 10, 2020 at Hunt Library.

Campus Writing and Speaking Program Spring 2020 Faculty Seminar

The Campus Writing and Speaking Program’s Spring 2020 faculty seminar will focus on incorporating writing into existing undergraduate courses. Each faculty participant will receive a stipend of $500 at the conclusion of the seminar.

The Seminar will meet six times on alternate Tuesdays from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm beginning on January 22nd (meetings: 1/21, 2/4, 2/18, 3/3, 3/17, 3/31), with a final meeting on 4/14 by a nationally known guest speaker.
