Assessment Workshops and Virtual Conferences

The Office of Assessment and Accreditation is offering a series of general assessment workshops throughout the fall.

Assessment 101

This workshop is for faculty and staff involved in their program or unit’s assessment process or their administrative unit’s assessment process. It will cover the purposes of assessment, the assessment cycle in general and the assessment process at NC State. This workshop will also provide an overview of assessment methods, resources and best practices.

Curriculum Maps and Course Alignment (Academic Programs)

This workshop is for faculty and staff involved in the academic student learning outcomes assessment process. It will introduce participants to curriculum maps and course alignment maps as key tools for assessment and planning. The workshop will explain the goals of curriculum mapping, provide participants with the necessary information to select an appropriate model for curriculum mapping and to identify alignment of curriculum, outcomes, and using the curriculum map and course alignment maps.

Writing and Revising Outcomes (Academic Programs and Administrative Units)

This workshop is for faculty and staff involved in the outcomes assessment process for their program or unit. The workshop will cover basics of writing, reviewing, and revising program or unit level outcomes.

Assessment Report Writing (Academic Programs)

This workshop is for faculty and staff involved in the academic student learning outcomes assessment process. The workshop will guide participants through the assessment report writing process by discussing the components for each section of the report, expectations, sharing best practices, and report examples.

Virtual Conferences

There are several notable virtual conferences taking place this fall related specifically to assessment.

  • IUPUI Assessment Institute (Virtual; COMPLIMENTARY registration); October 25-28
    • The Assessment Institute, hosted by IUPUI and usually held in Indianapolis, Indiana, is the nation’s oldest and largest higher education event of its type, offering more than 200 educational sessions. Typically, the Institute attracts more than 1,000 participants from all 50 states and several other countries representing more than 400 colleges, universities, and organizations….The Assessment Institute is designed to provide opportunities for (1) individuals and campus teams new to outcomes assessment to acquire fundamental knowledge about the field, (2) individuals who have worked as leaders in outcomes assessment to share and extend their knowledge and skills, and (3) those interested in outcomes assessment at any level to establish networks that serve as sources of support and expertise beyond the dates of the Institute.

Training on Annual Outcomes Assessment Process

This fall, campus assessment facilitators will offer training sessions for directors of undergraduate programs (DUPs), directors of graduate programs (DGPs) and department heads for assistance with the annual outcomes assessment process. Additionally, several drop-in sessions are scheduled.

Friday, November 13th, 10am-12pm: Department Heads training via Zoom

Friday, November 20th, 1pm-3pm: DUPs/DGPs training via Zoom
