Thomas Maycock

Bio

Tom Maycock is a science editor, writer, and project manager at NC State’s North Carolina Institute for Climate Studies (NCICS) in Asheville, NC. His work focuses on editing and producing climate assessments and related content as part of NOAA’s Assessments Technical Support Unit (TSU), which is staffed primarily by NCICS personnel.

He is currently supporting the Sixth National Climate Assessment, the National Nature Assessment, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group III contribution to the Seventh Assessment Report.

Mr. Maycock was an editor on the Third National Climate Assessment, the TSU’s project and editorial lead for the U.S. Global Change Research Program’s Climate and Health Assessment, a lead editor on Volumes I and II of the Fourth National Climate Assessment, and an editor for the North Carolina Climate Science Report (2020). He was also the Science Editor for the IPCC Special Report on 1.5°C of Global Warming (2018) and the Working Group I contribution to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (2021). Most recently, he was the Senior Science Editor for the Fifth National Climate Assessment, released in 2023.

Mr. Maycock holds a bachelor’s degree with a double major in physics and English literature from Northwestern University and a Master of Liberal Arts and Science degree from the University of North Carolina Asheville.
