Bio
Dr. Margery Overton is Senior Vice Provost for Institutional Strategy and Analysis at NC State. She is also a professor of civil engineering in the College of Engineering.
In her role, Overton leads Institutional Strategy and Analysis (ISA), which contributes to NC State’s strategic mission by providing consistent and reliable data to inform and support effective decision-making across all campus constituencies and levels of governance. ISA collaborates with the campus community to identify information needs, collect and manage data, provide analysis, and disseminate clear and accurate findings that encourage the transformation of knowledge into meaningful action. Overton also co-chairs the university’s strategic planning process, including the implementation plan and metrics; provides support to the Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program through the hiring process for cluster hires and the allocation of startup and space; and works with the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost team on strategic resource management.
Overton received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in civil engineering from Duke University. She joined NC State’s Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering in 1982. Her research focused on coastal processes, beach and dune erosion, coastal hazards identification and response strategies to improve the resilience of coastal environments using modeling techniques appropriate for both short-term (storm-driven) and long-term (sea-level rise) change.
