Provost’s Memo To Deans And Academic Department Heads – 2025-2026

TO:
Deans and Academic Department Heads
FROM:
Warwick A. Arden, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
SUBJECT:
Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure (RPT) Process, 2025-2026
DATE:
May 21, 2025

This memorandum provides notification of the Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure schedule and expectations for the 2025-2026 RPT cycle. Dossiers are to be submitted in RPT Online per the following schedule.

Staggered Deadlines:

January 7, 2026– Design, Education, Natural Resources, Poole-Management, Wilson-Textiles, Veterinary Medicine, Division of Academic and Student Affairs

January 14, 2026 – Humanities and Social Sciences, Sciences

January 21, 2026 – Agriculture and Life Sciences, Engineering

The process details and all related policies, regulations and rules are available on the RPT website.

Here are important highlights for the 2025-2026 process. First, inclusion of Impact Statements within Section I.C remains an option. In addition to the impacts from COVID, faculty members may also describe other high impact disruptions that have occurred and have had a demonstrated impact on their ability to carry out their obligations consistent with their SFR.

Second, based on consultation with the University RPT Committee, the term “Early” is being removed from promotion and tenure actions that occur prior to a mandatory review year. These actions will be tracked in my office as “nonmandatory reviews” such that a candidate who is considered for tenure and promotion prior to their mandatory review year and is denied can be considered again during their mandatory review year. All reviewers should be reminded that the focus of the review should solely be on whether the candidate has met or exceeded the standards for promotion and/or tenure. For a summary of these changes and reminders please visit the Current Year Details page on the RPT website.

Colleges have received an electronic summary of all the mandatory cases by department. Corrections and any anticipated non-mandatory cases should be added to the summary and returned to Amy Jinnette by August 8, 2025. Additional non-mandatory cases can be added after August 8, as long as the dossiers are complete and uploaded to the website by the college’s deadline.

Thank you for helping us maintain a reappointment, promotion and tenure process that is supportive of faculty excellence. As always, please contact Kim Grainger (kcgraing@ncsu.edu) or Amy Jinnette (arjinnet@ncsu.edu) in my office with any questions.
