Bio

Douglas is a Research Scientist with the NC Institute for Climate Studies. With training in applied math and geoscience, his broad research interests include advanced statistical models, satellite data development & validation, land-atmosphere interaction, and applied climate and environment monitoring research. His current research projects mostly focus on using machine learning and other emerging technologies to combine data from different sources to monitor global temperature change and its impact on ecosystem and community health. With more than 15 years of experience working with satellite data, Douglas actively collaborates with researchers and practitioners across different scales to apply satellite data for climate solutions. He is also actively involved in the international climate research community. He is a member of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project task team and serves on the Scientific Steering Committee for the Future Earth international project – Analysis, Integration and Modeling of the Earth System.
