David Monks

Vice Provost for Outreach and Engagement

Bio

David Monks is director of NC State Extension, which offers more than 26,000 educational programs statewide, connecting North Carolinians with NC State’s cutting-edge research to create practical solutions and applications across all 100 counties and the Qualla Boundary, and the Plants for Human Health Institute in Kannapolis. In this role, he collaborates with community partners to expand teaching, research and public service, amplifying the impact of NC State Extension. 

He is also the vice provost for outreach and engagement, and works with Outreach and Engagement staff to make knowledge and resources accessible to the public, in alignment with the university’s strategic plan, Wolfpack 2030: Powering the Extraordinary. 

Monks previously served as associate director of the N.C. Agricultural Research Service in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, a position he has held since 2013, and worked directly with industry partners in agriculture to build impactful research and relationships statewide. He joined the NC State Department of Horticultural Science in 1989 and served as an Extension leader and assistant department head. He was also responsible for weed management in vegetable and fruit crops.
