In my laboratory we study the roles of microbiomes in climate and environment relevant processes such as carbon sequestration from the atmosphere via microbial-induced carbonate precipitation and the degradation of biodegradable plastics in the environment. Additionally, we also investigate how microbes could be used to increase climate change resilience of plants through beneficial plant-microbe interactions. To study the functional interactions in microbiomes we use advanced metagenomic and metaproteomic approaches. We develop and deploy new metaproteomic approaches that rely on high-resolution mass spectrometry.
