Bio

I study the insects that transmit pathogens to people and animals. I became interested in infectious disease as a undergraduate at Amherst College, working on the evolution of virulence and pathogenicity in viruses. I then went to the University of Michigan to study epidemiology, mosquito-borne disease, and ecology, finishing my PhD in 2005. I continued my research career at the University of Florida as a post-doc, then became an assistant professor at Oklahoma State University, finally coming to NC State University in 2012, where I am an associate professor in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology.
