Bio

As the Global One Health Teaching Assistant Professor, Dr. Kristen Sullivan leads undergraduate education initiatives for the Global One Health Academy. Dr. Sullivan is establishing courses and innovative programs that engage undergraduate students in global One Health, preparing them to apply interdisciplinary approaches to complex global challenges in partnership with affected communities.

Dr. Sullivan received a PhD in Health Behavior and a MSW from UNC Chapel Hill, and a MBA from the University of Miami. Her research focuses on promoting equitable access to health research and care, particularly in the context of HIV. Prior to joining the Global One Health Academy, as a Research Scientist at UNC Chapel Hill in the Department of Social Medicine, she led NIH-funded qualitative research in the US, Malawi and Botswana, focused on identifying pathways to ethically advance the HIV and co-infections evidence base for pregnant women and adolescents. 

Dr. Sullivan brings a passion for teaching and facilitating global student learning experiences to this role. As an Assistant Professor at Elon University, she served on the team that developed the public health studies major, coordinated the multidisciplinary program, and developed and taught a range of globally-oriented, undergraduate public health and human services courses, including study abroad courses in India and London.  As a Research Scholar at Duke University, Dr. Sullivan taught a foundational course for the Master of Science in Global Health, and mentored undergraduate and graduate students engaged in domestic and international research projects.
