Summer 2024 One Health Museum Interns Selected

The Global One Health Academy is excited to announce the recipients of the Summer 2024 One Health Museum Internship at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences. During this internship, students will grow their scientific and professional skill set, gain experience in public engagement of science, and broaden their knowledge of One Health topics. Congratulations to our 2024 One Health Museum Interns!


Summer One Health Internship on Wildlife Health

This position at the NCMNS Biodiversity Lab will study the health of wild animals from camera trap photographs. Animal health can be assessed in photographs related to their general body condition and certain diseases that affect their fur (i.e. mange).

Adira Cohen is a first year PhD student in the statistics department at NCSU. She graduated from UMass Amherst in 2023 majoring in computer science and mathematics with a concentration in applied math and statistics. She grew up in Amherst, MA, and enjoys drawing and outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and caving.


Veterinary Sciences One Health Integration Summer Internship

This internship in the NCMNS Veterinary Sciences Section focuses on One Health integration into Veterinary Sciences operations through opportunities in leadership, program development and implementation, mentorship, public interaction, and presentation.

Ashley Cave is a DVM/PhD student in the Comparative Biomedical Sciences program at NC State. She is interested in investigating the exposure and effects of pollutants in marine mammals. Her current work is in assessing PFAS in sea lions in the Galapagos and California. She is passionate about One Health and education. She strives to explore how environmental health impacts human and animal health – and to share this knowledge with others. Ashley is very excited to join the Veterinary Sciences team at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences as a One Health Integration Summer Intern.
