- The Packways: Learning by Doing team is wrapping up a successful pilot year. The 53 faculty and staff who have completed professional development recently scored student reflections on the value of their high-impact experience and its impact on their personal and professional goals. This summer, we will focus on reviewing the data collected (e.g., student reflections, faculty/staff feedback and change in self-efficacy, focus group data and results from Institutional Strategy and Analysis’ sophomore survey), reflecting on progress and lessons learned and planning to revise and expand Packways for AY 25-26. - NC State marked Earth Day with its annual Celebration of Sustainability, recognizing the people, projects, and ideas making a difference across campus. Hosted by the NC State Office of Sustainability and supported by the Climate and Sustainability Academy and the Sustainability Council, the 2025 Celebration of Sustainability event highlighted the university’s efforts to create lasting environmental, social, and economic impact.
- When Liza Bunce signed up for NC State’s TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate program, she expected to build skills in lesson planning and cross-cultural communication. What she didn’t expect was that the program would take her from Saturday workshops in Raleigh to a small village on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica where she’d spend spring break teaching English to children, teenagers and adults. - When most people think about golf careers, they imagine professional players or local club pros. But NC State Continuing and Lifelong Education is changing that narrative with an innovative Professional Caddie Certification Program that’s turning heads in both the higher education and golf circles. Launched in February 2025, the program has already made waves by becoming the first university-accredited caddie certification course in the country. Just one month later, the program was awarded the NC State Economic Development Partnership Award, a recognition presented by the university’s Office of Outreach and Engagement honoring programs that significantly contribute to workforce development, economic growth and industry partnerships in North Carolina. - Learn more about integrating cognition, self-regulation, motivation and metacognition: a framework of post-pandemic flipped classroom design. A team of instructor designers and research scholars worked together on a hybrid and flipped learning design framework and their work was recently published in the Educational Technology Research & Development Journal. Project leads included Yan Shen, Dan Spencer and Jennifer Tagsold, with contributions from team members Stephen Bader, David Tredwell, Ben Huckaby, and Jeff Williford.

- Join the OFE team for 2025-26! We are looking to fund three Faculty Fellows who will facilitate OFE RED TH!NK certification program, assist with the Campus Writing and Speaking Program (CWSP), and assist with External Awards and Recognition. The fellow positions are:
- A fellow to assist with the TH!NK Critical and Creative Thinking Certification
- A fellow to assist with the CWSP
- A fellow to assist with External Awards and Recognition
Each fellow will receive $2500 per semester for each of the fall and spring terms, beginning August 16, 2025, and ending May 15, 2026. Faculty with either nine- or 12-month appointments are eligible. Some positions may have the possibility for renewal through a second year.

Over four dynamic weeks, you’ll receive a podcast, printable resources and a blog post each week, covering topics like understanding your support needs, the nuances of mentoring and coaching, and the power of sponsorship, while also gaining tips on how to be a better mentor, coach or sponsor yourself. You can also engage in conversation around these topics with other participants using social media channels, fostering a collaborative learning environment. - On April 16, NC State Global hosted its annual Global Engagement Honors & Awards event to recognize recipients of the Outstanding Global Engagement Award, Jackson Rigney International Service Award and the Distinguished Global Alumni Award. Provost Arden welcomed guests and College of Humanities and Social Sciences Dean Deanna Dannels gave an inspiring keynote address on the value of global learning for our students and researchers.
- NC State honored its 2023–24 cohort of Chancellor’s Study Abroad Scholarship recipients at a reception on March 21. Held in the Talley Student Union, the event recognized students who participated in study abroad programs during fall 2023, spring 2024, and summer 2024, and celebrated the academic and personal achievements gained through these international experiences.
- Commencement season is upon us, and the Global Training Initiative proudly celebrates the accomplishments of our undergraduate and graduate student workers who have demonstrated intellectual curiosity and a commitment to excellence in their work with us as well as throughout their academic journeys. The Class of 2025 is poised to make meaningful contributions as they move on to the next chapter of their lives, so we want to take the time to thank and celebrate each one of them.
- Expand your global research impact by applying for UGPN Seed Funding! The University Global Partnership Network Research Collaboration Fund is now accepting proposals to support international research partnerships between NC State, USP – Universidade de São Paulo and the University of Surrey. This year’s funding call offers up to $10,000 per institution—meaning bilateral projects can receive up to $20,000, and trilateral projects up to $30,000. Proposals are due by May 19, with the funding period going from August 1, 2025 to July 31, 2026, with an extension possible.
- 2025 Research Priorities:
- Address at least two UN Sustainable Development Goals
- Take a transdisciplinary approach across STEM, Social Sciences, Humanities, and the Arts

- Do you have a scientific question that could engage the campus community in the research process? If so, your project could be this year’s highlighted project through the Citizen Science Campus! We are excited to announce a call for proposals for the Citizen Science Incubator, a platform for identifying one to two focal projects of the year for the Citizen Science Campus. The selected Citizen Science Incubator project(s) will be featured in two unique campus programs: Pack Science Challenge and Wicked Problems, Wolfpack Solutions. Deadline: Friday, May 30, 11:59 p.m.
- David Eggleston, an Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor in the College of Sciences, was a recipient of the 2024 Faculty Travel Awards, where he traveled to Northern Italy. Learn more about Eggleston and how the Global One Health Academy helped support his research on blue crab harvest, processing, marketing, and distribution in Northern Italy through his featured spotlight.

The May article encourages leaders to identify early on when an initiative’s success is dependent on people adopting new behaviors. From the NC State University Libraries:
- The Hill Library will be closed throughout summer 2025 for electrical infrastructure repairs. Hill’s summer closure is scheduled to begin May 5 after commencement. The work should take 6-8 weeks, with the expectation that the Hill Library will reopen no later than August 1. All online Libraries services will continue on their regular schedule. The Hunt Library and branch Libraries (Natural Resources, Veterinary Medicine, Design) will operate on their regular schedule as well.
- The Libraries is pleased to announce the opening of the Maker Studio at the Hunt Library—a new space for hands-on making in the heart of Centennial Campus. With a fleet of 3D printers, heavy-duty sewing machines and professional soldering tools, this space is built for experimentation, innovation and creativity. The Maker Studio also features vinyl cutting, hand tools, electronics, low-fidelity prototyping tools and button makers. All services are free and open to the NC State community. Open from noon-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, the space is located in room 4401 on Hunt’s fourth floor.
- The NC State University Libraries is pleased to announce the appointment of the 2025-28 class of Libraries Fellows. Shira Greer will begin her fellowship in July and Laquanda M. Fields will join in September. The Libraries Fellows Program develops academic library leaders of the future, giving new librarians the opportunity to build their knowledge and expertise in a home department and to play a leadership role in an initiative of strategic importance for the Libraries. Fellows are appointed for a three-year term as members of the Libraries faculty. Since its inception in 1999, the program has attracted many highly talented graduates from universities throughout North America.
