May 2019 Provost’s Corner

Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Warwick Arden

Dear faculty and staff,

The extent to which you Think and Do, year in and year out, is simply amazing. The same goes for those who will be newly-minted graduates this Saturday. Each person in the NC State community, through the contribution of time, talents and service, makes the university truly great.

During commencement, we’ll send more of this greatness out into the world with the conferral of 6,125 degrees. This includes 96 associate’s, 4,018 bachelor’s, 1,692 master’s, and 319 doctoral degrees. With the 3,449 degrees conferred last December, NC State will award a total of 9,574 degrees in the 2018-19 academic year.

That’s quite a reason for excitement, in addition to the wonderful Celebration of Faculty Excellence that took place on May 1. We honored more than 30 faculty members for their outstanding contributions to the university, and recognized their prestigious state, national and international awards.

Even after all the awards and diplomas are handed out, there will still be plenty of excitement around campus. The first summer session and Maymester begin May 15, and we’ll welcome first-year and transfer students to campus for a series of orientation sessions beginning in June.

All of this is made possible by your commitment to educational excellence and building community among all faculty, staff and students. Thank you for helping make the 2018-19 academic year a success, and for carrying that momentum into a busy summer.

Until next time,
Warwick Arden
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
