August 2020 Provost’s Corner

Warwick Arden

Dear faculty and staff,

We’re in the second week of an academic year that no one could have imagined this past spring. In spite of all the unknowns and uncertainties, the campus community has come together in ways we haven’t seen before. I want to thank each and every one of you for your tireless efforts over the summer to ensure that we can continue to offer a top-notch education for our students.

Because of hard work and dedication to comprehensive excellence, I’m looking forward to an exceptional semester with high-quality and safe instruction. Though COVID-19 presents myriad challenges to the campus community, we can rise to the occasion to provide solutions.

Successfully meeting these challenges is dependent upon us all continuing to work together. I encourage you to review our community standards and ask those around you to do their part to protect the pack.

We’ve experienced successful activity on campus even before the first day of classes, from move-in to Wolfpack Welcome Week events. New Student Convocation was held virtually on Sunday, August 9, and was a great success. You can watch a video welcoming our new students here.

As the bookend to Commencement, Convocation brings together our new students, faculty, and staff to kick-off the new academic year and the path to graduation for the Class of 2024. Chancellor Woodson challenged the incoming class to prepare for success, to explore something new, and to take advantage of the endless opportunities inside and outside of the classroom.

In the coming weeks and months, I and other university leaders will continue to provide transparent communication to you all, whether about the COVID-19 pandemic or other matters. Many things may change in between updates to campus, but we will do our best to keep you informed in a timely manner. For the latest information, visit the Protect the Pack updates page.

As we move forward, I want us to hold one another accountable, work to keep our campus and community safe, and be understanding and kind to one another during a difficult time. We can show each other and the world what it means to Think and Do as part of one Wolfpack.

Until next time,
Warwick Arden
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
