  • In celebration of Data Privacy Month, January 28 to February 28, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) will sponsor Protect the Pack: Cover Your Assets! to empower you with the tools and knowledge necessary to protect your privacy and control your digital footprint. Sponsored by the National Cyber Security Alliance, Data Privacy Month stresses the protection of privacy and data as everyone’s priority. During Data Privacy Month, OIT will sponsor three special activities: Data Security Training, Mobile Security for Your Android and iOS Devices, and Mobile Device Security Checkpoints.   • NC State is calling on graduate students, undergraduate students, postdocs, faculty and staff to take part in Envisioning Research, the university’s annual research image contest. Help us highlight the beauty and importance of the work being done at the bench and in the field, both on campus and around the world. Submissions are due by June 7. Learn more about the contest and how to submit an entry.
  • NC State will host the annual University Global Partnership Network (UGPN) conference on April 1-3 on Centennial Campus. The conference brings together university leadership, faculty and administrators from UGPN member institutions to promote academic exchange and new research collaboration through relationships among researchers. It is a venue to discuss past accomplishments as well as formulate strategic direction and programmatic initiatives for the UGPN. Delegations from the University of Surrey (United Kingdom), the University of Wollongong (Australia), and the University of São Paulo (Brazil) will be in attendance. The Office of Global Engagement encourages NC State faculty and staff to attend conference workshops to meet with these strategic partners and attend the panel sessions. Register today!
  • Mark your calendar for NC State’s first-ever Day of Giving on March 27. For 24 hours, we’ll have special hourly challenges, college-on-college competitions and surprise guests — all in the name of supporting the Wolfpack. Your gift drives the future of NC State and the extraordinary Think and Do spirit that has allowed us to take our place among the nation’s top-performing universities. The Wolfpack is hundreds of thousands strong. #GivePack on March 27 and show the world what we can do when we come together.
  • Nominations for the Fall 2020 Common Reading Program book are now open. While fall 2020 seems far away at this point, the Common Reading Selection Committee will begin the process of selecting the 2020 book in June and are accepting nominations through May 31, 2019.   • NC State faculty are increasingly interacting with culturally diverse classrooms. Over 4,000 international students are currently enrolled at NC State from more than 100 different countries. Engaging such a broad range of perspectives and contexts in the classroom can create a number of challenges and opportunities for faculty. To help, NC State Global has compiled resources dedicated to teaching international students and facilitating a diverse classroom. Learn more about these resources.
  • RPT General Information Sessions will be offered this semester.  The sessions include details about the process, an overview of the RPT website and a question and answer period. New faculty in all tracks (tenure track, teaching, research, etc.),  those who will be entering the RPT cycle and anyone involved in the RPT process are encouraged to attend. No registration or RSVP is required. Please familiarize yourself with the Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure website prior to the sessions.   • The NC State University Council on the Status of Women invites you to nominate NC State faculty, staff and students for the Equity for Women Award. Nominees should demonstrate excellence in one or more of the following areas over the past 12 months: Leadership: Taking action to promote gender equity on and beyond campus through leadership roles; Service: Supporting equity for women through job-related or voluntary roles; and Scholarship: Contributing new knowledge and informing policy and practice related to women’s well-being and equality. The nomination deadline is January 28 at noon.   • The Office of Outreach and Engagement is pleased to announce the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Outreach and Engagement (O&E) Incentive Grants Program. Find full RFP requirements at https://oe.ncsu.edu/incentivegrants/. The O&E Incentive Grants Program seeks to align interdisciplinary faculty, their expertise, their students, and their research work to address significant community challenges in Wake County. This effort also supports student engagement through faculty and community collaborations. Proposals for funding should be submitted to Samantha Graham, Innovative Engagement Program Manager, by email, no later than 5 p.m. on March 8. Selections will be announced by April 5. From the Research Leadership Academy

  • The Research Leadership Academy (RLA) has spent the past few years creating impactful faculty-led and -driven events across NC State’s campus. The most recent RLA-hosted event starred science communicator Melissa Marshall. Marshall is the founder of “Present Your Science,” a coaching service to institutions and industry leaders in science-based fields or research. Read more about Marshall’s presentation.
  • RLA will host a lunch and learn — Opportunities and Challenges of Interdisciplinary Research — on Wednesday, February 27 from noon-1:30 p.m. in Talley Student Union’s Coastal Ballroom. In this session, participants will learn about interdisciplinary research programs, engaging students in interdisciplinary activities, NC State’s centers and institutes, and much more.
  • The RLA will host its first University Research Symposium — Opportunities in Cross- and Multi-Disciplinary Research — on Thursday, March 21 from 1-5 p.m. at the James B. Hunt Library, Duke Energy Hall. See what amazing research faculty across the university are involved in. The symposium will offer a unique opportunity for faculty to network across disciplines and between colleges.

From NC State DELTA:

  • Registration for DELTA’s 2019 Spring workshops is now open. This spring, topics covered will include: academic technologies, Gmail and Google Drive, best practices for a variety of teaching with technology tools/strategies, specialty workshops led by DELTA Faculty Fellows, open labs featuring one-on-one assistance and more. Visit go.ncsu.edu/deltaworkshops for a complete list of offerings. More workshops will be added later in the semester, so keep an eye out for updated listings.
  • NC State was recently featured in the Quality Matters newsletter in the article “Needs of Learners Drives Change at NC State.” The article mentioned DELTA’s offering of Quality Matters (QM), a nationally recognized, standards-based program, that offers faculty quality assurance in online and hybrid course design with a focus on continuous improvement. Many NC State faculty have achieved QM certification for their online courses, which aligns with the university’s strategic plan goals of enhancing student success, investing in faculty and infrastructure, and pursuing organizational excellence.
