Provost’s Corner: August 2018

Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Warwick Arden

Dear faculty and staff,

We’ve arrived at the 2018-19 academic year. That means thousands of new faces on campus — faculty, staff and students. If you’re new here, welcome; if you’ve spent time at NC State already, welcome back!

Wolfpack Welcome Week continues with myriad activities across the university, concluding with Packapalooza this Saturday, August 25. Come out to make new friends and reconnect with old ones, and start the semester off in true Think and Do style.

Some of you already received a first-hand look at life at NC State through the recent New Faculty Orientation. This year, the Provost’s Office and the Office of Faculty Development welcomed more than 120 new full-time tenured, tenure-track or full-time non-tenure-track faculty to the university.

We want new and returning faculty to find all the resources they need to successfully teach and conduct research, so we’ve launched Faculty Central. On this website, faculty will find information pertaining to all parts of the faculty lifecycle — from onboarding to reappointment, promotion and tenure, to retirement and everything in between.

We’re also celebrating the two-year anniversary of the debut of the Provost’s Office newsletter. With each newsletter, we hope you’ll become more informed about the strides we’re making in research, teaching and learning. Stay up-to-date on the latest academic happenings at NC State by signing up to receive the newsletter each month in your email. You’ll definitely want to check out our “NC State’s Summer Adventures” article — nearly 50 faculty, staff and students shared how they spent their summer at home and abroad.

You’ve all stayed busy, regardless of the season. I’m looking forward to a productive academic year following the great summer we’ve had!

To keep up with all academic and faculty- or staff-related developments, follow @NCStateProvost on Twitter.

Until next time,
Warwick Arden
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
