Bio

Dr. Voahangy Soarimalala is a senior researcher at Vahatra Association based in Madagascar and a professor at the University of Fianarantsoa. Voahangy received a PhD degree in Biology, ecology and Animal conservation from the University of Antananarivo, Madagascar. For several years to date, Voahangy has conducted biological explorations at more than 200 sites in different types of ecosystems across the Island. She actively participates in the advancement of the capacity building of young biologists and conservationists. Voahangy has published 58 publications and co-author of one book: “Guide des petits mammifères de Madagascar”. She is interested in the mammalogy, including biology, ecology, evolution, systematics, and biogeography. Voahangy has a deep knowledge of the biodiversity and natural history of Madagascar and contributes to the collection and validation of biological data on small mammals in various biodiversity assessments. Additionally, she provides scientific support to natural resource managers for the conservation of biodiversity in Madagascar. Voahangy has also experience in the management and preservation of scientific specimens in museums. Since 2007, Voahangy has been actively involved in zoonotic disease risk research in Madagascar, serving as Co-PI, and coordinating/participating the field work associated with different projects.
