Loni Taylor
Bio
Dr. Loni Taylor returned to academia after over a decade in veterinary practice and recently completed a residency in comparative medicine where she focused on animal models of zoonotic disease. Her research focuses on emerging infectious diseases from a One Health perspective. She is specifically interested in spill over and spill back episodes between humans and animals of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistant organisms. Her research extends to assess the association between health behaviors and social determinants of health and these events. She is also interested in the use of animals as sentinels for human diseases. Her previous work has centered on studying Giardia and Cryptosporidium in a canine model and is now expanding into studying the effects of cohabitation on the spread of fecal zoonotic organisms and antimicrobial resistance between dogs and their owners as well as zoonotic exposures in agriculture workers. She collaborates with the other principal investigators of the Laboratory for Emerging Infectious and Tropical Disease Research (LEATDR).
