Bio
Dr. Georgina M. Sanchez is a Research Scholar with the Center for Geospatial Analytics at NC State. Georgina’s interdisciplinary approach to research bridges land and climate change science, hydrology, and geospatial analytics to address complex sustainability challenges. Her work involves projecting “what-if” scenarios of population redistribution and landscape change in response to increased flooding; understanding the underlying drivers of flood damage and anticipating future flood risk; modeling the tradeoffs between regional development choices and environmental health impacts; and developing decision-support technologies and visualizations to guide natural resources management efforts. She holds a Ph.D. in Forestry and Environmental Resources from NC State, a M.S in Biosystems Engineering from Michigan State University, and a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Costa Rica.
