Bio

Gayani Tillekeratne, MD MSc is an Associate Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Duke University and at the Duke Global Health Institute. She attends on the General Medicine and Infectious Diseases services at the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

She earned her BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and her MD from Duke University School of Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. She then completed a Global Health Fellowship and Master of Science in Global Health at Duke University, joining faculty in 2015. Her research interests include surveillance for emerging and re-emerging infectious pathogens, especially related to acute respiratory and antimicrobial-resistant infections.

Her research activities are focused in Sri Lanka, East Africa, and the US. She is interested in multidisciplinary and translational research that extends from the laboratory to the clinical environment. She is also interested in educating and mentoring the next generation of global health professionals.

Gayani serves as co-director of the Ruhuna-Duke Centre for Infectious Diseases (sites.duke.edu/rdcid) and is Adjunct Professor in Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka.
