Funding Opportunities

The Global One Health Academy aims to catalyze innovative research and global collaborations at the intersection of human, animal, plant, and environmental health. Funding opportunities are available at faculty and student levels to support interdisciplinary One Health research activities.

Seed Grants

The Global One Health Academy offers a number of seed funding opportunities to support novel, interdisciplinary One Health research projects. For all funding types, seed grants are intended to support new projects and collaborations, or extensions of existing projects that represent new directions into One Health research. We welcome research proposals stemming from all disciplines, including the natural sciences, veterinary medicine, engineering, social sciences, education, and policy.

Seed grants that are part of our Grand Challenges Addressing Program (GCAP) support NC State faculty-led research centered on a focal theme. Funding amounts range from $15,000 for Pilot Projects that explore nascent ideas to $50,000 for Launch Projects that are at a more advanced stage and poised for external funding success. GCAP Seed Grants are anticipated to be offered yearly, although focal themes may vary. Learn more about GCAP.

We do not currently have an open call for GCAP Seed Grants.

Local Engagement Seed Grants support NC State students, postdoctoral scholars, faculty, and staff in their One Health-relevant local engagement projects. Projects supported by these seed grants are expected to have robust community engagement that moves beyond outreach and dissemination of results toward collaboration, shared leadership, and co-creation of knowledge. The ultimate goal is to meaningfully improve the health of individuals, communities, and ecosystems in North Carolina through collaborative research with community partners. Local Engagement Seed Grants are anticipated to be offered yearly. Learn more about Local Engagement Seed Grants.

We do not currently have an open call for Local Engagement Seed Grants.

We periodically have open seed grant calls that support NC State faculty-led One Health research aligned with any of our three thematic areas: combating infectious diseases, driving food and water solutions, and addressing climate change and health disparities. These seed grants fund a number of activities that will advance One Health research, including collection and analysis of data, hiring a common graduate or undergraduate student, holding research-focused workshops, and organizing working groups that support idea generation, white papers, review articles, or grant proposals. Learn more about our most recent general seed grant recipients.

Postdoctoral Funding

We offer Postdoctoral Support Awards that are designed to support research or training expenses that will ultimately advance interdisciplinary One Health research or implementation by postdoctoral scholars at NC State. These awards support a variety of activities that advance the applicant’s professional development and One Health research efforts, including collection and analysis of data, travel for research, travel for attendance at workshops and conferences, development of research communication products, hiring an undergraduate student to assist in research efforts, and publication fees. Learn more about Postdoctoral Support Awards.
