Grand Challenges Addressing Program
Focusing on select areas of strength at NC State, GCAP leverages diverse expertise to bridge traditional scientific boundaries, catalyze interdisciplinary knowledge, and address global grand challenges through a One Health lens.
The Global One Health Academy’s signature research initiative is its Grand Challenges Addressing Program (GCAP), which aims to address wicked problems that require an interdisciplinary One Health approach. GCAP leverages NC State’s research, teaching, and engagement strengths to synergize our activities in an area of strength and launch new collaborations within and beyond the university. Bringing the full spectrum of NC State’s expertise to bear on key areas will enable us to cross traditional scientific boundaries, ultimately catalyzing knowledge advancement and establishing powerful partnerships for societal impact.
Through GCAP, the Global One Health Academy will provide dedicated investments that include pilot funds for new interdisciplinary partnerships, larger seed grants to support transformative research poised for extramural funding, and sustained opportunities to build community and expand research networks around a central focus. GCAP focus areas will be identified based on areas of institutional strength that have high potential for interdisciplinary collaboration and solutions-oriented One Health research.
