Bio
Prof. Naima Moustaid-Moussa is the Inaugural Executive Director for the Institute for One Health Innovation (IOHI), a jointly established Institute by Texas Tech University (TTU) and Texas Tech Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in July 2024. The vision of IOHI is to be the preeminent entity in West Texas, for recruiting and training scientists and health professionals as future leaders of transdisciplinary, transformational One Health research and healthcare worldwide (https://www.depts.ttu.edu/onehealth/).
Dr. Moustaid-Moussa is a Horn Distinguished Professor in Nutritional Sciences at TTU, Professor of Cell biology & Biochemistry at TTUHSC and Founding Director of the Obesity Research Institute. Her research focuses on diet, endocrine systems and metabolic diseases. She focuses on the role of adipose tissue in chronic diseases with emphasis on mechanisms of anti-inflammatory bioactive food components in obesity, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease including the role of microbiome. As she leads the IOHI, her research will expand to include climate, and environmental influences on food systems and impact on health.
The mission of the TTU System-Wide IOHI is to serve the public by training scientists and health professionals in leading transdisciplinary research and developing innovative solutions for today’s most pressing One Health problems. IOHI emphasizes rural healthcare access and communities to ultimately benefit the regional and global health and wellbeing of humans, animals, and ecosystems.
