Kristen Pogreba-Brown
Bio
Kristen Pogreba-Brown, Ph.D., M.P.H., is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (COPH). She also has a joint appointment in the School of Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences as an Associate Veterinary Specialist and works with the College of Veterinary Medicine on collaborative research projects. Dr. Pogreba-Brown is the Director of SAFER (Student Aid for Field Epidemiology Response), a nationally recognized student outbreak response and surveillance team that coordinates with local and state health departments to investigate a variety of diseases.
Dr. Pogreba-Brown is an expert in foodborne diseases, specifically the epidemiology and microbiology of Campylobacter, and outbreak investigation methodologies although her work has also been largely focused on CoVID-19 and long CoVID-19 since 2020. She is the faculty lead of One Health in COPH and has helped to design a multi-disciplinary approach to the curriculum from programs across campus and bridging the gap between clinical human medicine and agricultural practices, animal health, and production. She teaches an advanced graduate level course in One Health Applications and Practice. Her most recent research activities are focused on the post-infectious sequelae of infectious diseases, including bacterial foodborne infections and the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Her One Health research is focused on source attribution in food safety and working with animal shelters to reduce zoonotic disease transmission. Dr. Pogreba-Brown is a proud alumni of the University of Arizona and a Bio5 Institute Scientist.
