Announcing the Global One Health Scholars Program

The Global One Health Academy is proud to announce the Global One Health Scholars Program. This program will train the next generation of One Health leaders.

The Global One Health Scholars Program at NC State develops undergraduate students into the next generation of leaders in One Health through interdisciplinary training, experiential learning, and leadership development, centered on the One Health approach, which connects human, other animal, plant, and environmental health.

Eligibility

This program is open to undergraduates enrolled in the Global One Health Minor. Interested students may enroll in the minor at any point up through the application deadline.

The Program

  • Interactive Seminars: Participate in seminars with faculty, field experts, and graduate students. Explore diverse topics through engaging discussions as part of a collaborative cohort.
  • Experiential Learning: Engage in hands-on projects and leadership activities that enhance your practical skills and interdisciplinary understanding.
  • Study Abroad: Attend a transformative course in the Czech Republic during Summer II from July 1-22, 2025. Address global challenges like the health impacts of climate change, emerging infectious diseases, and antimicrobial resistance. Scholars will receive funding to cover the costs.

The application consists of 3 parts:

  1. Short essay questions.
    1. What does One Health mean to you? Why are you interested in One Health, and how does it intersect with your field of study or intended career path? 300 words maximum.
    2. How will participating in the Global One Health Scholars program help you achieve your goals? What specifically interests you about  joining this team-based, interdisciplinary training program? What contributions will you bring to the group? 300 words maximum
  1. Letter of recommendation. Provide a letter of recommendation from an academic or professional reference that speaks to your suitability for the Global One Health Scholars program. The letter should discuss your demonstrated interest in One Health, provide insight into your abilities, and include an assessment of your fit for the program.
  1. Resume/Curriculum Vitae (CV). Include a resume or CV that details your academic achievements, relevant experiences, and skills.

Applicants will be assessed based on the strength of their academic and professional alignment with Global One Health, a holistic view of their existing skills, and their potential to contribute to and benefit from the Global One Health Scholars program.

Faculty members from various disciplines will review applications, so please make sure your responses are clear and engaging for readers with diverse backgrounds in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
