Bio

Dr. Erika Machtinger is an Associate Professor and leads the Veterinary Entomology Laboratory. Her multidisciplinary and integrated research focuses on pests of medical and veterinary concern. One of Dr. Machtinger’s primary research interests is tick ecology and tick-host interactions. She works to understand the behaviors and interactions between ticks and their hosts. Dr. Machtinger’s research is also practical and applied, to improve control and personal protection against pests. As the Vector-borne Disease Team leader at Penn State Extension and the project director of the VectorED Network, Dr. Machtinger uses her research to inform and improve public health education and promote awareness of the risks posed pests and vectors.
