Bio

Christophe Peyrefitte has been Director of the Institut Pasteur de la Guyane since September 1, 2021.

His professional career has taken him to study arboviruses, hemorrhagic fever viruses, orthopoxviruses, and their epidemic emergence in several establishments, including the Institut de Médecine Tropicale du Service de Santé des Armées in Marseille, the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Maryland, the Centre de Recherche du Service de Santé des Armées in Grenoble, the Fondation Mérieux Emerging Pathogens Laboratory and the Institut de Recherche Biomédicale des Armées.

He has been involved in teaching fundamental virology and molecular and medical virology courses at the Institut Pasteur in Paris for over 15 years. He has worked with and directed the Centre National de Référence des arbovirus, the Laboratoire Référent des Orthopoxvirus, and the OIE Reference Laboratory for Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus. He represented France on various NATO working groups (CBRN-Med WG, Biomed-Panel, etc.), and was involved in managing several epidemics, including the Ebola virus in Guinea. He then served as Scientific Director of the Institut Pasteur de Dakar in Senegal for 3 years, before moving to Cayenne.
