Bio

Dr. Venkitanarayanan’s lab focuses on one health approach for controlling zoonotic and antibiotic resistant pathogens in food animals. Currently, his research investigates the efficacy of antibiotic-alternatives, including plant-derived molecules and probiotics for attenuating virulence in pathogens and reducing their persistence in chickens and the poultry production environment. Further, his group has identified several phytochemicals capable of inhibiting horizontal gene transfer of antibiotic resistance genes among bacteria, thereby aiding to reduce dissemination of antibiotic resistance in the food production continuum.
