Bio

Dr. Shobhan Gaddameedhi is a tenured Associate Professor of the Environmental Health Sciences at the Department of Biological Sciences at the North Carolina State University (NCSU). Dr. Gaddameedhi received his M.Sc. in Plant Sciences from the University of Hyderabad, India and his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the North Dakota State University (2003-08). He pursued his post-doctoral training in the circadian biology and DNA repair fields with Prof. Aziz Sancar from UNC Chapel Hill (2008-14). Before joining NCSU as part of the Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program in July 2020, he started his academic career at Washington State University (WSU) where he rose from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor with tenure. Dr. Gaddameedhi’s main scientific interests are determining the mechanisms by which the circadian clock regulates environmental health outcomes through ‘gene-environment’ interactions and identifying the mechanisms by which circadian disruption and climate change influences genomic instability and carcinogenesis (including melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers) outcomes. Dr. Gaddameedhi is a recipient of NIH/NIEHS K99/R00 Career Development Award (2013), DOD/CDMRP Career Development Award (2018), NIH/NIEHS Outstanding New Environmental Scientist/ONES Award (2020), and Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics Society (EMGS) Education Award (2021). In addition, he is a recipient of UNC Postdoctoral Award for Research Excellence (2013), American Society for Photobiology New Investigator Award (2018) and EMGS Newly Independent Investigator Program Award (2018). At WSU, he was recognized with the Graduate Program Teacher of the Year Award for twice (2017 & 2019). Dr. Gaddameedhi has also served on the American Cancer Society, CDC/NIOSH, DOD, NIH, and NSF Study Sections and currently serving on the Editorial Boards of Environmental and Molecular Mutagenesis, Chronobiology International, Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, and Toxicology Reports.
