- CaSA welcomed Shakiya McCoy as our 2025–2026 Communications and Marketing Intern. In her role, she will help amplify student voices and engagement by producing CaSA’s signature Student Spotlights. A senior in the Wilson College of Textiles majoring in Fashion and Textile Management, Shakiyah is passionate about storytelling, community building, and connecting students to opportunities. On campus, she is actively involved as a Student Government member, Wilson College Ambassador, and participant in several student organizations.
- The Blue Economy Innovation Program’s 5th annual “Creating Solutions for the Global Blue Economy” workshop (BEW25) will be held Oct. 24-25 at NC State’s coastal campus in Morehead City, NC. This workshop is free for NC State undergraduate and graduate students. The workshop offers a rare chance for students to develop real solutions for the coast—solutions that blend science, creativity and innovation. Networking opportunities with innovators, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders are a key feature of the workshop. This year, with generous support from the German Consulate’s Clean Economy Bridge Program, a delegation from University of Rostock and the Ocean Technology Campus in Rostock, Germany will participate. Topics to be discussed include: aqua-/mariculture; coastal erosion and water quality; marine renewable energy; coastal flooding and saltwater intrusion; sensor development and AI. - The KIETS Climate Leaders Program is hosting its annual fall symposium, “Think and Do: Climate Challenges and Solutions,” Oct. 1-2, in Hunt Library on Centennial Campus. Attendance is free and open to everyone. Attend a communications workshop and listen to speakers and panels on city design and tourism, hazard mitigation and disaster recovery, Energy Grids and Sustainable Proteins. Students can present at the student poster session and labs, startups, businesses, etc., can request a table at our Innovation Showcase. Registration is requested for planning purposes.
- The KIETS Climate Leaders Program request for applications for its 2026 student/mentor cohort is now open. All undergraduate and graduate students from all colleges, departments and majors may partner with a mentor (faculty or professional staff) for this one-year program. Students and their mentors will receive stipends to support the student’s three- to six-month internship placement and time in the program. Applications will close at 11:59 pm, Oct. 19.

- 2025-26 Faculty LEAD applications are now open! The Faculty LEAD Program, sponsored by NC State’s Learning and Organizational Development and Office for Faculty Excellence, is intended for faculty members who want to become better leaders. This year-long, cohort-based program will be held primarily in person. Faculty participants will attend seven sessions, leading to a Faculty LEAD certificate.
- A COIL Faculty Learning Community event will take place Thursday, Sept. 11 from 3-4 p.m. online and OFE Conference Room #405 (4th Floor Clark Hall 405). COIL is Collaborative Online International Learning and promotes curricular, virtual, interactive educational opportunities by connecting faculty and students through shared experiences across international borders. Our community is faculty-led and open to everyone interested in learning more about COIL, sharing resources about how to internationalize your curriculum, and fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration.
- A RED Discussion: Critical and Creative Thinking Aligned to Your Course will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. Cultivating students’ critical and creative thinking (C&CT) is essential for preparing them to succeed in virtually every discipline and to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives. These skills enable individuals to seek new questions, approach problems from multiple perspectives, identify biases and assumptions and find innovative solutions. In this session, faculty will align a general C&CT process to their disciplinary process and will perform a course (or curriculum) mapping activity to identify the gaps in opportunities they are providing students to develop these skills.
- Getting Ready to Reflect on Your Teaching will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. Reflecting on our teaching can feel daunting, frustrating, or even overwhelming! The RED Core Teaching Certificate breaks the reflective approach to teaching into manageable stages, from instructional design to assessment of learning and teaching, and provides tips and strategies that can be adapted to any learning environment. The first step is to get ready to reflect on our teaching practice, celebrate our strengths, and tackle our challenges. Join this conversation to see how quickly we can find connections with and learn from our colleagues across the university.
- OFE is kicking off ONLINE Mentoring Matters for fall 2025 — register now our sessions. - This fall, we’re celebrating 20 years of the NC State European Center in Prague and its impact on the Wolfpack community. From September through November, join us for a series of events that showcase the power of global learning and the connections that shape NC State’s future.
- NC State’s Global Leadership Minor is preparing students to lead with confidence, cultural fluency, and values that last a lifetime. In partnership with the Shelton Leadership Center and the NC State European Center in Prague, the program takes students across Europe—combining classroom learning with real-world leadership challenges in cities like Prague, Innsbruck, Glasgow, and Nice. From the Global One Health Academy:
- The Global One Health Academy is excited to announce its second Grand Challenges Addressing Program (GCAP) focus area: the food-water interface. Proposals are now being accepted for pilot projects for the GCAP Food-Water Interface Seed Grants, which will support interdisciplinary, One Health projects that integrate across food and water. Deadline: Monday, Sept. 15, 11:59 p.m.
- Proposals are now being accepted for the 2025-26 Local Engagement Seed Grants. These seed grants will support NC State students, postdocs, faculty, and staff in their One Health-relevant projects that engage and benefit North Carolina communities. Award amounts are available between $2,500 and $10,000, with three funding types/levels depending on the scope and goals of the project. Deadline: Monday, Sept. 15, 11:59 p.m.
- The Global One Health Academy is proud to partner with Citizen Science Campus to offer Participatory Sciences Microgrants. These microgrants advance graduate research that utilizes participatory science approaches and/or advances the field of participatory sciences. Graduate or professional students at NC State enrolled in the Participatory Sciences Graduate Certificate are eligible to apply. Interested students may enroll in the certificate at any point up through the application deadline. Deadline: Monday, Sept. 15, 11:59 p.m.
- The Global One Health Academy is proud to offer the Spring 2026 Graduate Travel Awards to support graduate students for domestic or international travel that advances their global One Health-related research. Award amounts are available up to $1,500 for domestic travel and up to $3,000 for international travel. This current call will support travel occurring January through June 2026. Deadline: Sunday, Oct. 12, 11:59 p.m.
- In 2025, the Global One Health Academy announced the launch of the Local Engagement Seed Grants to support NC State students, postdocs, faculty, and staff in their One Health-relevant local engagement projects. Kathryn Stevenson (College of Natural Resources), was a recipient of the 2025 Local Engagement Seed Grant Awards for a project on designing a co-produced resilience education program. - Each year, the Global One Health Academy funds an exceptional group of graduate students with One Health-related research interests. - Coffee & Viz returns with VR volcanoes on Sept. 19. Dazzling visuals and innovative information—that’s the Libraries’ Coffee & Viz series! These engrossing events in the Hunt Library’s Teaching and Visualization Lab showcase the unique ways that researchers at NC State and elsewhere are using visualization to enhance their scholarly work. Coffee & Viz events are free and open to the public; registration is required.

- The N.C. Plant Sciences Initiative recently marked an important milestone: the first graduation from the Seed2Grow startup program. From the Plant Sciences Building’s agricultural technology incubator, Hoofprint Biome advanced development of an enzyme-based feed additive that not only reduces methane output from cattle but also boosts milk production in dairy cows and weight gain in beef cattle. - The N.C. Plant Sciences Initiative’s “mashup” series brings industry partners and the NC State University together to learn and network with the local agricultural technology community. The next mashup, on Oct. 2 at the Plant Sciences Building, will focus on agricultural formulations.
The event kicks off at 4 p.m. with a seminar featuring Toni Aldridge and Grant Aldridge of Nufarm, as well as Terri Billeisen of the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology and Jim Martin of the Department of Chemistry. Billeisen and Martin will provide an overview of a newly launched agricultural formulations class that they are co-leading at NC State and a certificate program that’s being developed.
