“Mathew has extensive laboratory and training experience, as well as a strong background in interdisciplinarity and higher education,” said Pierce. “This will make him an invaluable asset to the ISI and we are excited to have him on the team.”

As director of operations, Steadman will implement the mission and vision of the ISI and Woodson Hall to transform the sciences at the university. He will be responsible for campus-wide efforts that support research and curriculum development and serve as a point of contact for various ISI/Woodson Hall projects, including building and occupancy planning and management.

Prior to joining NC State, he served as the laboratory manager in the Biobehavioral Lab at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing. In this role, he served more than 30 research teams, assisting in the recruitment for and execution of research studies, the design of new laboratory facilities, and much more. He was previously a training and service technician with Microthermics, Inc. in Raleigh.

“With the rapid growth of the Office of University Interdisciplinary Programs and the ISI, we need highly skilled and innovative individuals who embody our mission and vision,” said Pierce. “I look forward to working with Mathew as we carry work toward our goal of transforming teaching, research and discovery in chemistry and other STEM fields at NC State.”

Steadman was named 2012 Employee of the Year in the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Chemistry. He received his Bachelor of Science in chemistry with a concentration in biochemistry, and his Master of Arts in interdisciplinary education, with a concentration in science, technology, environmental education and mathematics from Santa Clara University.
