Search for Senior Vice Provost for Faculty Excellence Underway
A search internal to NC State and the UNC System for the new senior vice provost for Faculty Excellence is underway.
As announced earlier this month, Senior Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs Katharine Stewart is stepping down from her position and returning to the faculty in the Department of Psychology, effective July 1.
The nomination committee for the senior vice provost for Faculty Excellence search is chaired by Senior Vice Provost for Instructional Programs Helen Chen. The other committee members represent the Office for Faculty Excellence as well as various constituents from across the university, including faculty, department heads, deans and administration. Committee members are:

- Alina Chertock, Head and Leroy B. Martin, Jr. Distinguished Professor, Mathematics, College of Sciences; Chair, Department Head Advisory Committee
- Tim Danielson, Associate Vice Chancellor, University Human Resources
- Deanna Dannels, Dean, College of Humanities and Social Sciences
- Janet Del Pinal, Program and Communications Specialist, Office for Faculty Excellence
- Chris DePerno, Professor, Forestry and Environmental Resources, College of Natural Resources
- Jonathan Holloway, Leadership Program Manager, Office for Faculty Excellence
- Herle McGowan, Chair of the Faculty and Teaching Professor, Statistics, College of Sciences
- Allison Newhart, Vice Chancellor and General Counsel
- Sheri Schwab, Vice Provost, Institutional Equity and Diversity
Executive Search Services in University Human Resources will manage recruiting and logistics for this search. Kelly Wick will be managing the search for the Provost’s Office.
The position was posted February 20. The nomination committee will hold its first meeting on February 29 and continue to work during the spring. Finalist candidate interviews and open forums will be held in late April.
The university is looking for an experienced, innovative, creative and collaborative leader with the ability to understand NC State’s culture pertaining to faculty affairs. They should have demonstrated leadership in faculty policy development and administration; faculty recruitment, recognition and retention; faculty reappointment, promotion and tenure; and professional development for faculty and academic leaders. NC State also seeks to attract and review a diverse candidate pool. The nomination committee will receive training on conducting an equitable and inclusive hiring process and has been tasked with reaching out to colleagues for input on diverse candidates.
