Donna Petherbridge Named Interim Vice Provost for DELTA
Donna Petherbridge, associate vice provost for academic technology innovation, will serve as interim vice provost for Distance Education and Learning Technology Applications (DELTA), effective July 1, 2021. Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Warwick Arden made the appointment. She will replace Tom Miller, who is stepping back from his leadership of DELTA.
Petherbridge has served in her current position since July 2017, in an associate vice provost role since 2007, and has been part of DELTA since its creation in 2000. She leads a team of training, instructional design, media production, applications support and applications development specialists in researching, applying, and supporting innovative instructional technologies and pedagogies.
“Donna’s commitment to advancing academic technology exemplifies our focus on comprehensive educational excellence at NC State,” said Provost Arden. “We are enthusiastic about her appointment as interim vice provost and look forward to DELTA’s continued growth and influence under her leadership.”
Petherbridge is actively involved with NC State’s IT Strategic Planning endeavors and works closely with IT leaders across campus, where she facilitates technology planning and governance efforts, currently co-chairing the NC State Strategic IT Committee. Petherbridge is a member of EDUCAUSE, recently serving as a conference planning committee member and program proposal reviewer. She is an active member of the NC State Council on the Status of Women, and a co-founder of NC State’s Women in Technology interest group.
She is also an adjunct teaching assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy and Human Development in the College of Education, where she teaches online courses, mentors graduate students, and serves on dissertation committees. Petherbridge has been a member of the graduate faculty since 2008.
Additionally, Petherbridge has more than 20 years of experience in supporting higher educational faculty members in leveraging technology to support their instructional goals, and prior to that, experience teaching in middle and high school. She is regularly invited to present on emerging technologies and building communities in online courses, most recently as a panelist at the University Global Partnership Network conference, discussing innovations in remote/hybrid education and COVID-19 impacts on higher education with colleagues from University of Surrey (UK), University of Wollongong (Australia), and University of São Paulo (Brazil).
Petherbridge was awarded the NC State 2011–2012 Workforce and Human Resource Education Alumni Award for Outstanding Professional Service, has been previously recognized as a NC State Pride of the Wolfpack winner, and was a 2019 NC State IT Community recipient of an Extraordinary Project Team Impact Award. She is also regularly recognized as an outstanding instructor via the NC State’s “Thank a Teacher” program.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from Elon University, her master’s degree in information science from North Carolina Central University, her Ed.D. in adult and community college education from NC State, and an Executive Women in Leadership Certificate from Cornell University.
