  • RPT General Information Sessions will be offered this semester.  The sessions include details about the process, an overview of the RPT website and a question and answer period. New faculty in all tracks (tenure track, teaching, research, etc.),  those who will be entering the RPT cycle and anyone involved in the RPT process are encouraged to attend. No registration or RSVP is required. Please familiarize yourself with the Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure website prior to the sessions.   • Nominations for the Fall 2020 Common Reading Program book are now open. While fall 2020 seems far away at this point, the Common Reading Selection Committee will begin the process of selecting the 2020 book in June and are accepting nominations through May 31, 2019.   • The College of Natural Resources has purchased a one-year institutional membership in the Citizen Science Association for NC State. This membership allows all NC State affiliates to take advantage of all membership privileges. If you would like to take advantage of the membership privileges that are now available to you. please send your full name, college affiliation, and email address to Mandy Tetzlaff (agtetzla@ncsu.edu). She will give you access. All members can participate actively in the CSA community, and will enjoy all the benefits of membership which include: networking, coordination and professional development opportunities; enhanced participation and access to association resources; opportunities to engage in association development and operations; access to promotional opportunities; and registration at the members rate at the upcoming Annual Conference in Raleigh in March.
  • The Office of Outreach and Engagement is pleased to announce the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Outreach and Engagement (O&E) Incentive Grants Program. Find full RFP requirements at https://oe.ncsu.edu/incentivegrants/. The O&E Incentive Grants Program seeks to align interdisciplinary faculty, their expertise, their students, and their research work to address significant community challenges in Wake County. This effort also supports student engagement through faculty and community collaborations. Proposals for funding should be submitted to Samantha Graham, Innovative Engagement Program Manager, by email, no later than 5 p.m. on March 8. Selections will be announced by April 5. Please direct any questions concerning this solicitation to Samantha Graham at sjgraha2@ncsu.edu.

Two new directors have recently been announced:

  • Kimberly Strozewski has been named the director of the NC State European Center in Prague, a unit of the Office of Global Engagement. Strozewski will take on the director role in mid-February from Interim Director Heidi Hobbs, who will return to Raleigh and continue to assist in the transition through May.
  • Carla C. Johnson has been named executive director of the William and Ida Friday Institute for Educational Innovation and an associate dean with the College of Education. She will begin her new role July 1.

Nominations for the following awards are now open:

  • The NC State University Council on the Status of Women invites you to nominate NC State faculty, staff and students for the Equity for Women Award. The nomination deadline is January 28 at noon. Please nominate worthy candidates by completing the 2019 Equity for Women Award Nomination Form; more information can be found here. please contact Lisa LaBarbera-Mascote at 515-2012 or via email at lmlabarb@ncsu.edu with any questions. Nominees should demonstrate excellence in one or more of the following areas over the past 12 months:
    • Leadership: Taking action to promote gender equity on and beyond campus through leadership roles
    • Service: Supporting equity for women through job-related or voluntary roles
    • Scholarship: Contributing new knowledge and informing policy and practice related to women’s well-being and equality
  • Nominations for the Outstanding Extension Awards and Outstanding Engagement Awards are now open. These awards are to encourage and recognize members of the faculty and EHRA staff who are nominated and selected by their respective colleagues, schools or units on campus for their outstanding contributions to extension and engagement. The full awards process and timeline can be found here: 2018 OEA Criteria and Guidelines. Submit nomination letters via this form. The deadline for nominations is January 18, 2019.   • Nominations are now being accepted for the 2018-19 Gertrude Cox Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching and Learning with Technology. The deadline for nomination submission is January 25, 2019. As the use of technology in teaching and learning changes, this award adapts to reflect those changes. Please visit the Cox Award website to learn about the updates in criteria and eligibility, required application materials and award recognition.   • The Office of Outreach and Engagement and the University Standing Committee on Engagement, Extension, and Economic Development is pleased to announce the annual call for nominations for the Opal Mann Green Engagement and Scholarship Award.  The award recognizes Dr. Mann Green’s distinguished leadership and dedication to the values of: using democracy in the classroom, in the community, and at home; creating inclusionary teams; and community-based learning and mutually-beneficial action around local issues valued by community members.   • Know a member of the Wolfpack who has improved sustainability? Nominations are being accepted through February 14 for the NC State Sustainability Awards (formerly called the Green Brick Awards) in the following categories: student, staff member, faculty member, department or student organization, and innovation/impact. Learn more and nominate at go.ncsu.edu/sustainabilityawards.

From NC State DELTA:

  • Registration for DELTA’s 2019 Spring workshops is now open. This spring, topics covered will include: academic technologies, Gmail and Google Drive, best practices for a variety of teaching with technology tools/strategies, specialty workshops led by DELTA Faculty Fellows, open labs featuring one-on-one assistance and more. Visit go.ncsu.edu/deltaworkshops for a complete list of offerings. More workshops will be added later in the semester, so keep an eye out for updated listings.
  • Effective for the spring 2019 semester, all testing will be by appointment only. Students will need to schedule appointments at least 24 hours in advance at go.ncsu.edu/takemytest. Faculty who use DELTA Testing Services should update their syllabus statement to alert students of the change. View a suggested statement to add to your syllabus. Learn more about these changes.
