Provost’s Corner: June 2017

Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Warwick A. Arden

Dear faculty and staff,

NC State may feel a little different with summer in full swing, but the university still bustles with activity. Over the next few months, we’ll host summer sessions, new student orientations and a variety of summer camps.

Some changes will be coming to campus in the months ahead as well. Vice Provost and Director of Libraries Susan K. Nutter plans to retire this fall. We will miss her visionary leadership, but look forward to the continued growth of the NCSU Libraries that will come from her efforts.

Additionally, the Office of International Affairs will become the Office of Global Engagement effective July 1, and Vice Provost Bailian Li will become the senior vice provost for global engagement, reporting directly to me.

We’ll continue to prepare for the 2017-2018 academic year while enjoying our beautiful campus home. If you’re teaching, conducting research or engaging in community service this summer, we’d love to hear from you about your activities at provost-communications@ncsu.edu. Your input could be featured in an upcoming edition of the Provost’s Office newsletter.

Many of you have certainly made your mark on campus over the past year, and were honored at various end-of-semester awards ceremonies, including departmental Awards for Excellence functions.

The University Awards for Excellence, held on June 7, recognized NC State’s most outstanding employees over the past academic year. They represent the highest honor NC State bestows on non-faculty members. Each nominee demonstrated outstanding service in either customer service, efficiency and innovation, human relations, outstanding state government service, public service, heroism or the spirit of North Carolina. Congratulations to the 12 NC State recipients, who will be submitted for consideration for the Governor’s Awards for Excellence.

We’re immensely proud of our award winners and everyone who contributes to NC State’s continued reputation for providing world-class educational and research opportunities. I look forward to see how you’ll continue to Think and Do the rest of the summer and into the next academic year.

Until next time,

Warwick Arden
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
